This place was recommended by our host at the Inn. I recommend reservations as the only have about 8 to 10 tables. Inside. During the warmer weather, the enclosed porch would allow for more. Don't be fooled by the look of this place. The food was top notch. I'm not sure who the chef is in the back, but everything was amazing. Get the Pulled Pork & How Cakes!! We lobed them. We also had the Wild Mushroom Stroganoff and it was terrific. Our server was a real treat and we loved her too! Don't miss this place.

We had an amazing experience at The Stave. We had reservations at 5:45 but got there earlier than expected at 5:00. They sat us immediate. We then order bourbon flights. They have so many bourbons to choose from that I was very grateful they had recommended flights on the menu to choose from or else I’d still be there trying to determine which ones to get. We ordered the Blacken Catfish & Grits as well as the Bison Short Rib. Both were amazing. The catfish was the best catfish that I had ever eaten. For desert, we ordered the Bread Pudding and Peanut Butter Pie. The bread pudding was good although there was no way I could finish that by myself. The peanut butter pie on the other hand was gone before I was even offered a bite but was told it was the best peanut butter pie they ever tasted. We ate at several different restaurants over the four days we were in Kentucky and this by far was the best restaurant that we ate at in the trip.

My husband and I were visiting from out of town and celebrating his birthday. The name of The Stave hooked me but the reviews reeled me in. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint!! The atmosphere is very quaint and cozy, the food was absolutely five star, and the service (Wendy was our server) was above and beyond. We often go to high end restaurants so we do not easily impress. The Stave is now on our list as one of our favorites. I had the pork shank and it was delicious!! The outside was candy in my mouth. It’s served over pickled cabbage (and I’m not usually a cabbage fan) & mashed potatoes. They complimented the pork shank perfectly! My husband had the lamb bolognese. It was also a supreme dish. Our server, Wendy, recommended the bread pudding for dessert. It was the best I’ve ever had in my life. I can’t leave a review without mentioning the old fashioned. The candied orange syrup makes up for it not having a sphere ice cube and not being smoked. It got better with every sip. I actually never take the time to write a review, but the atmosphere, food, & service were too impeccable to ignore. I highly recommend…5/5!

Stopped here per the suggestion of our driver while we were on the Bourbon Trail. Absolutely excellent! Everyone was really friendly. They had a huge selection of bourbon, so if you can't get to every distillery, you can taste something here, and the food was great. The pulled pork and how cakes were excellent, but my favorite was the fried green tomato pimento grilled cheese. Excellent cocktail selection. For lunch I chose the "Rye on Thyme" which featured a Castle & Key rye. Very refreshing. We're all college football fans as well, and they had a few of the games on. Excellent all around.

Justin was our server. He was energetic, friendly and very helpful. The fried green tomato & pimento cheese sandwich with candied bacon were excellent. As good as anything similar in Charleston restaurants. Chocolate chip bread pudding with butter whiskey sauce also excellent. Extensive bourbon selection

This was our second time eating at The Stave. By far the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had. I added pimento cheese and bacon. We always like to sit at the bar for the entertainment aspect. The bartender was nice, knowledgeable and made really good cocktails. Highly recommend.

First of all the we were told when we got there the on line menu has not been updated for at least two years. There are no deviled eggs. The food was alright, marginal at best. The service was just fine. The appetizer cheese plate for $9, pictured, was few cut up celery sticks and some baby carrots with a bowl of stale crackers. I had brussel sprouts, they were delicious and crab cakes also good. But still pricy for what you got. My son got the shrimp and grits which tasted like hot sauce only. They looked good but tasted like the bottle of Frank's only. The rest of the flavors were masked by the Frank's. Very small place and requires reservation. Why? Not sure. No, I would not return. This is the place to got to drink bourbon, but it may be pricy also. It was way out on a windy road down from the Castle and Key. Possibly a bad place to get out of if you have too much. This was not a favorite of mine on this trip. Prices on line were much cheaper than when we got there and the flies were plenitful, 5 on the window inside where we were seated.

Just happened to come across this place, and we were definitely glad we did. It is off the beaten path for sure but worth the short drive out to it. I would recommend calling first or making a reservation because there was an hour and a half wait by the time we left. Our waitress was great. She gave us a rundown of the place and the menu. All fresh, local, homemade food.. and everything tasted excellent. We had an appetizer of Crawfish "cakes" over fried green tomatoes. We tried the catfish bite poor boy sandwich, and the Stave burger with pimento cheese.. both were very flavorful. And then.. the bread pudding. Just yum! Definitely recommend!
